One of the oldest societies dedicated to the study and advancement of geographical science is the subject of today’s Family First Site. It is not one located in this country, but is in Great Britain, and is incorporated under a Royal Charter by the Queen of England.
The Royal Geographic Society was founded in 1830, and has been one of the most active organizations promoting the many aspects of this science, including, but not limited to, research, education and teaching, field training and small field expeditions, and the gathering of geographical information. Making the public aware of its mission and goals has been part of its focus during the past 170 years. That mission is fulfilled by the amount of detail and information contained here.
